Copacabana

Copacabana, charming region on the shores of Lake Titicaca is located at an altitude of 3,841 meters, at a distance of 155 km the city of La Paz, which is the seat of Government of Bolivia and the country’s largest city. The trip from La Paz takes about 3 ½ hours by paved road. Copacabana, almost a mandatory step between Cusco (Peru) and the city of La Paz.

The town of Copacabana, built between the hills and Child Calvary Calvary (or Kesanani), has approximately 6,000 inhabitants, is the capital of the municipality of the same name, which covers 33 rural communities originating, with an approximate total of 25,000 hab.Copacabana is famous throughout the country for its religious celebrations, cultural heritage and traditional festivals.

Moreover, the beauty of Lake Titicaca, the unique natural landscape and the numerous archaeological sites pre-Inca and Inca can practice a multitude of activities in a world apart. Lake Titicaca, a remnant of an ancient inland sea, covering an area of 8,500 km2, is considered the highest navigable lake in the world. Also called the Puma’s Stone Lake, played a leading role in Andean beliefs and was considered as an “island sea” connected with the ocean, the mother of all waters. Even today, local residents believe that the lake provides them with rain and distributes the water sent by the gods of the mountain.
